Feb 3, 2025 · Maybe a sticking solenoid. I have one misbehaving when cold in my Tundra since new, but very mildly. Not enough motivating me to drop the pan and replace it. 4 oz of Lubegard HFM made it better. Switched to Ravenol ATF on last drain&fill, too. Toyota ATF is a bit dull on additives. Wife's Sequoia with the same engine/transmission is butter smooth.

Mar 12, 2018 · Same issue here in upper Michigan. Started last January cold at hell 0 degrees. Fuel pump was on back order 3 months at the time. By time it came in it warmed up and issue was resolved. Now it’s cold again and it’s back. Just had new fuel pump installed and still the same. Was slightly better for few days. Only on cold starts does this happen.

On the old fuel-injected 22REs, that extra shot of fuel was handled by a dedicated "start injector". It was nearly imposssible to start one if the start injector quits working.
