Moored on the Hudson River in Albany, New York, the USS SLATER has undergone an extensive restoration that has returned the ship to her former glory. The museum offers one hour guided tours, youth group overnight camping, and a historic location to hold naval reunions.

The primary mission of the USS SLATER/Destroyer Escort Historical Museum is to utilize the SLATER as an educational platform to teach youth and visitors about contributions of the destroyer escorts in World War II and the postwar Navy.

War Record — USS SLATER
As the Battle of the Atlantic drew to a conclusion, the SLATER underwent modifications to its armament in preparation for battling a new threat in the Pacific Theater, where the menace of kamikaze aircraft was taking a heavy toll on US and Allied vessels.
3 inch / 50 Cal. — USS SLATER
The elevating and training hand wheel gear, seats for the pointer and trainer and platforms for the sight setter and checker are attached to the carriage. The gun recoils about 11 inches. The SLATER has MK21 mounts with fixed prism telescopes for the pointer, trainer and sight checker.
40 mm — USS SLATER
As commissioned in 1944, the SLATER carried one twin 40 mm Gun with MK51 director, located on the superstructure aft on the 01 level. A set of torpedo tubes were located on this deck just aft of the stack.
