Mar 29, 2025 · This 1981 Triumph TR7 convertible was acquired by the seller’s grandfather in 2014, and it is powered by a 2.0L SOHC inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. A 3.8L Ford V6 and a collection of parts for a V6 conversion were sourced under current ownership, but the retrofit was not completed.

It has a rebuilt 1979 Buick even fire 231ci (3.8 Liter) V6. There is a Elderbrock Performance Power package installed (Camshaft, Lifters, Timing gear, Valve Springs, Intake Manifold). There is also a Holly 600 cfm carburetor and custom on off air cleaner that fits under the stock hood.

When trial fitted, the team determined the front of the V6 engine could be located nearly seven inches rearward and an inch lower in the frame than the original Triumph inline-six. The sixty-degree V6 is simply more compact. It's also about 170 pounds lighter!

The 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 comes with a 2.5-liter three-cylinder, making 165 hp and 163 lb-ft. Not only does the larger engine make more power, Motorcylist reports it’s actually lighter than the previous one. Triumph cut about 25 pounds from the Rocket 3’s engine and 88 pounds in total from the whole bike.
