Back on Earth, Clare Keightley accidentally revives Chronotis whose chambers are revealed as a TARDIS, the Professor explaining the book is a key to the prison planet Shada where Salyavin is held.

Shada holds the distinction of being the last missing serial of Doctor Who, albeit for entirely different reasons than the 1960s episodes lost to archival purges. It is also the final six-part serial in the show’s history, as subsequent seasons favored shorter formats.

Salyavin had been imprisoned by his people on Shada, their prison planet, but had escaped and was now living in retirement as Professor Chronotis at St Cedd’s College, Cambridge.

Produced to mark the 40th anniversary of the Doctor Who franchise, Shada was a remounting of the television story of the same name, which was originally planned to end Season 17 in 1980, but abandoned before completion due to industrial action at the BBC.
