The R68A is a B Division New York City Subway car order consisting of 200 cars built between 1988 and 1989 by Kawasaki Railcar Company in Kobe, Japan, with final assembly done at the Kawasaki plant in Yonkers, New York. [5] A total of 200 cars were built, arranged in four-car sets.

The side ribbing runs all the way to the car ends and side doors on an R68, but taper off on approach on an R68A. Only the R68s have a metal bar separating the side sign from window, while the R68A has one solid pane of glass.

Jul 21, 2009 · To me, the R68A sounds more like an R42 b/c of the Westinghouse motors. Unlike other trains using a Westinghouse/Adtranz Propulsion, it doesn't make that whirl (except 5076) as on cars with broken motors.
