It's a self-funded project and they don't have the committee to spread the risk of investment. Mappa gambled and lost big time. (Or maybe they didn't go all-in as they said they would.)

Chainsawman, JJK, takt op destiny, kakegurui, ippo, banana fish, dorohedoro, zombieland saga, punchline, garo, listeners are all vibrant and artistic bodies of work produced by mappa. Now, all that's left is to know how many hours employees are being forced to work. KyoAni has been known for having a good work environment whereas MAPPA has gotten criticism for their long hours.
