What is the EU MRV? The EU MRV regulation sets requirements for shipowners to monitor and report their vessel emissions each calendar year in an ongoing cyclical process.

Mar 1, 2001 · Regulation (EU) 2015/757 sets out rules for a European Union (EU) system to accurately monitor, report and verify (MRV) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other relevant information from large ships using EU ports. The regulation applies to all cargo and passenger vessels of 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) and above visiting EU ports.

In 2015, the decarbonisation of the maritime transport sector in the EU took an important first step forward with the entry into force of Regulation (EU) No 2015/757 on the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of CO2 emissions (the MRV Regulation).

Starting 2024, vessels are required to have updated MRV Monitoring Plans. These updates include the addition of Outline of the overall control system (OoCs) and several changes to prepare for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
