Accessory wise, the M27 comes with better sights and sling. The M4 issue sling is the same piece of crap used since Vietnam. Theoretically, the M27, being a short stroke system has the ability to run a bit cleaner since the gases aren't going into the chamber similar to direct gas impingement with AR15 design.

Dec 15, 2019 · The M27 IAR is an HK 416, and the 416 is a select fire carbine too. What makes it an M27 are the configuration and accessories attached. Like the m27/416, and FN SCARs, the three carbines the Army is testing as part of the NGSW are all piston driven and not direct gas.

Feb 18, 2017 · It doesn't negate the fact that the USMC obviously feels the M27 is capable of serving in the DMR role better than an M4A1 can and has decided to procure more M27s to replace their M4s. NSW has more than a few HK416s floating around in their inventory so I'd be curious to read whatever memorandum is out there on their thoughts of M4 vs HK416/M27.

Oct 8, 2023 · The M27 runs a lot cleaner and requires less time to maintain. Otherwise they are the same weapon. Same ammo. The only part that needs to be replaced on a M4/M16 to make it a M27 is the upper receiver. It takes just a few seconds to do. The M27 has been in service since 2010. I don't think it should be considered "new" anymore.

Honestly, this is just an accurate representation of an M27 IAR and an M4 (aside from the barrel swap being somewhat impractical due to different operating mechanisms in the first place). Unless you're using it for heavy suppressive fire, there is no real practical difference between an M4 and an M27 irl.

Oct 20, 2021 · The M27 is a lot more expensive then an M4 and those will meet the vast majority of Navy's and Air Force's small arms needs for many years to come. Special operations forces in all 4 branches have access to M4's with upgraded parts kits and many have access to weapons like the HK 416 so there is little point in adopting the M27 for those units.

TLDR: Modern, free-floated M4A1, IMR-Blue, and URGI systems are better than the M27 in every category you listed, as well as others such as weight and felt recoil.
