The Amphibious Vehicle, Tracked (LVT or AMTRAC) is an amphibious warfare vehicle and amphibious landing craft, introduced by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. (The USN and USMC use "L" to designate Amphibious vessels, also called "L class".)

No LVTs were used in the Normandy D-Day invasion because there were NO coral reefs to hinder the faster, larger Higgins and other landing craft. All Allied forces used a few through out Europe for river crossings, but other than that did not play a pivotal part on the continent.

Aug 16, 2010 · I know they where used in various operations in Europe after D.Day by the British and where in use with the US Marines in the Paciffic before D.Day. Did the Marines have priority over deliveries of these or were there other reasons for them not being used?

Jul 3, 2020 · Lvt's were used in small numbers because the plan was that the Sherman DD tanks would lead the main assault. I know a lot were slated for the Pacific, D-Day for Saipan was just 9 days after Overlord, so a transfer from the ETO to PTO was out of the question.
