They reduced the signal level coming into V2b and reduced the overall gain with the V2b Cathode circuit. also changed the Cathode Cap to adjust the frequency (voice). Clean and classic gain from first glance appear identical (aside from adding the switches for the second master volume).

The best way to fix it is to fit a TRS socket to the footswitch - it will fit in the hole for the cable clamp - and then use any stereo cable to the amp… you can even have a spare. That is exactly the problem I had with my DSL 401 sorted as described above.

When looking at the schematics for a DSL, you must first be aware of the board numbering scheme used by Marshall. The DSL has 5 boards, each one having its own board ID, board Rev and Issue number.
