  1. Best doweling jig? - The SawdustZone

Oct 23, 2006 · I have the Dowel Max jig and can't recommend it highly enough even given the relatively high cost. The Dowel Max produces absolutely perfect-fit joints using an extremely simple, fast and accurate alignment system that requires no measuring. It is simply fantastic. I tried 3 or 4 other doweling jigs before I finally gave in and bought the Dowel ...

  2. Anyone use dowel centers? - The SawdustZone

May 1, 2024 · They're inexpensive and a great way to line up dowels for assemblies where dowel jigs don't necessarily work. I have sets of four sizes 1/4". 5/16". 3/8" and 1/2" Pretty much I have only used the 1/4" and only ever needed four, so I went overboard A set of four 1/4" ones is a really che

  3. How to rip round stock - SawdustZone

Aug 26, 2007 · One of those "100 tips" type of books had a jig just for this. Basically it was a flat piece of wood in a squarish "C" shape. A hole was drilled through the arms of the "C" that the dowel would fit though. One hole then had a thin metal strip (old hacksaw blade piece) shoved in there to act as a splitter and to keep the dowel from turning.

    5. remove the attached jig fence and place one of the 4" dowels into the slot you cut, so that the majority sticks out in front of the fence. Fasten in place with glue, brad, whatever. 6 replace the attached jig fence back to the miter fence with the attached dowel to the left of the blade - use the second dowel as a spacer or setup bar to the ...

  5. How do I use dowels? - The SawdustZone

Oct 6, 2005 · I haven't got a good tenoning jig built yet, so my first project is using dowels at the 90 degree joints. Just tonight I put my first square subassembly together made out of 4 strips of wood. The only problem is that the four pieces aren't perfectly co-planar. I think it must be due to the fact that I can't use a drill press

  6. Dowels across miter joints? - The SawdustZone

For the OP's application (which I was guessing was on the carcase) I would think you could do the (hidden) spline joinery or lock-joint, do the glue up, then make a similar jig to clamp over the corners of the carcase that would allow the router to cut the dovetail notches.

  7. Dowels in plywood - The SawdustZone

Dowels work just fine in plywood applications provided the alignment is right and the right size dowel is used. There are some very inexpensive jigs that set up the alignment, and you can use "dowel centers" which are cheap. Foremost on any joinery, fastening or alignment method, is to evaluate the application and decide which method will be best.

  8. Cutting small dowels - The SawdustZone

Aug 26, 2017 · Good jig, but if I'm visualizing it right, you'd have to fill those holes with several pieces of dowel stock, run it through the saw and have perhaps, some waste in the process... not mention the action required to load the jig, do the cut, and then dump or perhaps even press the dowels out after the cut, all of which seems a little inefficient.

  9. Cutting circles with a router - DIY jig - The SawdustZone

Feb 13, 2012 · The jig should go clockwise around the workpiece; the router should appear to go counterclockwise in the jig hole A. Now were ready for the exciting part the cutting. Adjust the router bit depth so that it protrudes 1/16th to 1/8 below the bottom of the jig.

  10. Round end on dowel - How? - The SawdustZone

Feb 18, 2006 · How about something based on a bandsaw circle-cutting jig? Cut a v-groove, or even a <3/4" dado in a ~2" wide piece of ply. Put the pivot pin in the middle of the groove, and lay the dowel in the groove. Pivot the grooved ply and dowel to make the first cut, then rotate the dowel in the groove and cut again. Keep going until good enough. Regards,
