Jul 22, 2023 · Just over three years ago, on the Tapatalk Zodiac forum, Chaucer did an excellent visual and written explanation regarding the autopsy report by Dr. De Petris of Cecelia Shepard's wounds, and how those injuries may have occurred at Lake Berryessa on September 27th 1969.

The Lake Berryessa attack differed from the previous two crimes at Lake Herman Road and Blue Rock Springs, in that the killer used a gun, but then switched to a knife in the brutal attack on Bryan Calvin Hartnell (20) and murder of Cecelia Ann Shepard (22). See autopsy report.

On September 27 1969, friends Cecelia Shepard and Bryan Hartnell were relaxing at Lake Berryessa, California, when their afternoon was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of a menacing figure. His face was concealed by a black hood, painted with a crosshair symbol.

Bryan and Cecelia followed the killer’s instructions because they had been deceived, and the Zodiac relied on this deception to execute his plans. After the attack, Bryan played over the events in his mind and questioned his decisions.

On the afternoon of September 27, 1969, college students and friends Bryan Hartnell and Cecelia Shepherd had settled along the shore of Lake Berryessa for a relaxing afternoon visit. According to Bryan, he and Cecelia were lying on the ground along the shoreline when she noticed a man lingering in the shade of some trees nearby.

Method of attack: Cecelia Shepard, age 22, was stabbed 10 times, five in the front and five in the back. Bryan Hartnell, age 20, was stabbed six times in the back. The knife had a wooden handle and a blade approximately 10 to 12 inches long. There was no indication of robbery or sexual molestation. There were no witnesses.
