Cid Kagenou (シド・カゲノー, Shido Kagenō?), formerly Minoru Kageno (影野実, Kageno Minoru?), is the titular antihero and protagonist of The Eminence in Shadow series. After a premature death, he reincarnates into a world of swords and sorcery.

The Eminence in Shadow (陰の実力者になりたくて！, Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!?) is an epic comedy action isekai about Cid Kagenou, a boy who dreams to enact his powers over the world while lurking in the shadows.

Formerly 17-year-old high school student Minoru Kageno, after dying in a truck accident he is reincarnated in another world as Cid Kagenou, the 16-year-old son of a minor noble family.

In his delusion, he ran into a truck and died, only to be reincarnated as Cid Kagenou, the second child of a noble family. To train his skills and gain funds for his secret activities, Cid hunted down bandits, where during one of his raids he stumbled upon a "possessed", a lump of meat that was overloaded with magic.

Cid is the founder and leader of the secret organization Shadow Garden under the moniker Shadow to help realize his fantasy of becoming an "Eminence in Shadow." However, unbeknownst to him, his fabrications are often revealed to be quite genuine in reality.

Cid first met Elisabeth while infiltrating the Lawless City's Crimson Tower. Having heard of the Blood Queen, he was excited to fight her. However, upon finding her coffin empty, he lost interest and left. Later, Cid returned to save the Shadow Garden members from the revived Elisabeth.
