Dec 17, 2017 · Following are details of my recent engine rebuild which I briefly summarised in another post. Engine is original M30B34. Mileage was 237K. Known problems were worn cam, and valve guides, otherwise was sound. All internals were original and the head hadn’t been off.

The BMW 6 Series E24 featured an inline 6-cylinder M30 engine with capacities of 2.8 to 3.5 litres. The only exception: the BMW M635CSi, developed by BMW Motorsport GmbH and produced in small quantities from 1984 onwards.

Notes All E24s were fitted with straight-six (in-line) M30 engines. Most were 12 valve units barring the 24 valve S38 6 cylinder in-line engine which graced the M635CSi (the M6). The 630CS was the only 6 to sport an engine without fuel injection (notice the absence of the 'i' extension). Conversions ft/lb to Nm multiply by 1.36 (200ft/lb = 272Nm).

The BMW E24 6 Series was the second generation of luxury coupés. Replacing the original E9 CS and CSL Coupés in 1976, it continued the concept of performance two-door models derived from saloon platforms.

Oct 4, 2007 · The B34 was on the E28, E23, and E24 from ~82 onward. Motronic 1.0 was also used on the B34, as before the L-Jet system was used, an older, analog system of electronic fuel control. Your E24 and E34 have totally different feels because one uses the B34/1.0 pair (the E24) and the other uses the B35/1.3 pair.
