Feb 11, 2013 · A bank in Indonesia has developed the first mobile payments service for Canadian handset maker BlackBerry’s Messenger service (BBM). PermataBank has teamed up with British mobile banking solutions provider Monitise to roll out a commercial pilot of BBM Money in the country ahead of a full launch.

BlackBerry, formerly RIM, is rolling out a new mobile payments service after launching BlackBerry 10 earlier this year in an attempt to remake its brand. The company announced plans today to provide a mobile payments service, called BBM Money, through BlackBerry Messenger to customers in Indonesia.

The new BBM Money will enable payments in participating retail stores and online, while continuing to benefit from bank-grade security measures including passcodes and encryption and leveraging BlackBerry's expertise and legacy in security and privacy.
