Encourage students to compare those consequences to the consequences of righteousness in 4 Nephi when they study those chapters in Mormon. Point out that the ultimate consequences of both righteousness and wickedness do not come until the Final Judgment.

Contention and the importance of eliminating it are emphasized in 4 Nephi. After identifying sources of contention that occur in your own life, outline a strategy of what you can do to eliminate or minimize contention in your life.

The book of 4 Nephi contains the account of the people who lived after the Savior’s visit to the Americas. As you study their experiences, look for the impact that Jesus Christ and His gospel had on these people.

Fourth Nephi There are four authors of 4 Nephi: Nephi (whose father Nephi was one of the disciples of Jesus Christ); Amos the son of Nephi; Amos the son of Amos; and Ammaron the brother of Amos. In only 49 verses, the book of 4 Nephi narrates a period of nearly 300 years—almost one-third of the entire Nephite history covered by the Book of Mormon. The brevity of 4 Nephi contributes to its power.

In your study of 4 Nephi, you will witness the blessings that come to people who are united in living the gospel of Jesus Christ. The book reveals that all the people throughout the land were converted during the Savior’s ministry among them.

The covenant community of Zion described in 4 Nephi was a literal fulfillment of the much-repeated prophetic teaching throughout the Book of Mormon that if people would keep God’s commandments they would prosper in the land, seemingly in all ways.

In 4 Nephi, we read of people who, for nearly 200 years after the visit of the Savior, were so righteous that “there could not [have been] a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God” (4 Nephi 1:16). Sadly, that society eventually fell into apostasy.
