Hi all, in light of recent changes to unskippable 30 sec ads I have decided to simply boycott everything I see as an unskippable ad and thought I might share this approach with everyone trying to keep youtube watchable. If you get bombarded with ads. It's because you tend to not click away. Close the video and then close the site. If you can do it, take a break and come back later. Standard skippable ad: Can be any length Viewer can skip after a few seconds BUT, for the view to count, the viewer has to watch AT LEAST 30 seconds of the ad.

Starts a video. Immediately met with an unskippable 15 seconds Google Certificate ad. Ad finishes, taps on timestamp to get to the area of the video I’m interested in. IMMEDIATELY confronted with double unskippable 15 second ads: Google Certificate and Ed Sheeran. Ads finish, finally I get to enjoy the video.

When that happens, I just exit from the video and return once the ad is 5 seconds or a more reasonable length. Or just not return at all if the video isn't worth it. This is when watching on my TV, as I can't figure out how to blocks ads on it.

And if that wasn't already trashy enough, non of the ads are skippable, and not in the way that they'll say "your video will play after the ads," there is NOTHING there. So I'll be sitting there, watching two silent, unskippable ads, unable to do sh!t about it.

Feb 6, 2022 · 30 minute video... 7 sets of 2 ads... 14 ads in total... the first ad of each set was 20 seconds, unskippable. The second ads were all 5 seconds. 25 seconds worth of ads, 7 ad break breaks, nearly 3 minutes total just in adverts. Couldn't skip ANY of them. This is an average of 4 minutes between adverts. THIS is why people use AdBlockers.
