Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a State of Emergency effective immediately in preparation for the freezing temperatures and winter weather expected to impact Georgia on Tuesday.

The winter storm brought up to about 2 inches of snow over parts of north Georgia and areas south of Interstate 20.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of the central and southern Georgia area. Here's what to expect.

A powerful winter storm is moving into metro Atlanta and North Georgia on Friday, bringing snow, sleet, freezing rain, and hazardous road conditions.

Nitz the mountains will see “accumulations to 2-3, isolated 4-inch totals or higher in the higher peaks of the North Georgia mountains.” The Atlanta metro will see snow in the morning with it turning to freezing rain. “From the metro to the area to the north, we’re talking one to two inches,” Nitz said.

Atlanta weathered its second winter storm of the season on Tuesday, seeing about an inch of snow across the metro.

Between school closures and power outages, the effects of the winter storms of the past several days have shown it’s effect throughout Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
