BJP has appointed Vijender Gupta, MLA from Rohini, as the new speaker of the Delhi Assembly. Gupta, previously the Leader of Opposition, won his seat by over 37,000 votes against AAP’s Pradeep Mittal and has been a prominent figure in Delhi BJP.

Confirming his nomination by the party as the speaker candidate, Gupta said that once he gets elected, he will ensure that the CAG reports are tabled in the house.

A three-time MLA from Rohini, Gupta served as the leader of the opposition from 2015 to 2020, and for a short period of time from June 2024 till the last assembly term ended this year.
