Often called the pink moon, April’s full moon will rise this Saturday. The fourth full moon of the year, and the first of astronomical spring, it also happens to be a micromoon — the opposite of a supermoon. It will reach its peak at 8:22 p.m. Eastern time.

The name "pink moon" comes from the early spring bloom of a wildflower native to eastern North America called Phlox subulata, which is commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox. The flower was in full bloom around April’s full moon.
