Pundits speculate that Nvidia has used a “paper launch” method to keep consumers interested in its RTX 5000 series GPUs. Here is evidence that this theory is correct.

Not all Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards are equal, as the firm admits that some of them have fewer ROPs and slower game performance.

Nvidia is revealing today that it has sold more RTX 50-series GPUs than 40-series during the first five weeks of launch. While we don’t have exact figures, Nvidia has supplied a chart that claims it has shipped 2x in that same amount of time.

Nvidia claims RTX 50-series GPUs are off to a better start than the previous generation. Nvidia has released four GPUs in the past several weeks, compared to only two in the previous generation. RTX 50-series GPUs remain out of stock at most major retailers.
