The senior aide to Russia’s president said a U.S.-backed plan for a 30-day truce would help Kyiv to regroup, as the Kremlin declared it is close to ousting Ukrainian forces from its Kursk region.

The resumption of U.S. military and intelligence aid for Ukraine follows a contentious White House meeting between the American and Ukrainian leaders, but Moscow is unlikely to agree to the proposed ceasefire.

During talks in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to President Trump’s plan for a 30-day ceasefire for the war in Ukraine. Trump said that he will now speak to Russia’s president Putin. The U.S. will now resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

A senior Kremlin official said that a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the U.S. and accepted by Ukraine would help Kyiv.

Russia said on Thursday there was no doubt that its troops would soon complete the task of clearing out Ukrainian forces from Russia's Kursk region where they have held a pocket of territory for more than seven months.

Russia says it will discuss the U.S. ceasefire proposal, but Vladimir Putin has signaled he seeks to expel the remnants of Ukrainian forces from Kursk.

The Kremlin on Thursday declined to comment on a Reuters report that Russia had presented the U.S. with a list of its demands to end the war in Ukraine and reset relations with Washington.
