Across California, ski resorts like Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe are digging out after receiving multiple feet of new snow.

Places like the Pine Knob Ski and Snowboard Resort are going to be open throughout the winter because of their ability to make artificial snow, but many people there on Thursday said that the real stuff is better both for business and for skiing. "It's amazing. I love it. I want to be here every day, " Lily said.

At Mammoth Mountain, more than five feet of snow could fall between today and night as an intense blizzard passes through.

A hefty snowstorm is currently battering California's Sierra Nevada amid this week's atmospheric river, causing closures and delays at popular ski resorts across the region.

“Maybe it [would] be a replacement of a chairlift, maybe a new guest services facility or a restaurant. Perhaps a road needs re-grading that goes up the mountain,” explained Grant Colvin with the National Ski Areas Association that represents resorts and is a staunch supporter of the act.
