Gov. Ron DeSantis was poised to sign into law sweeping immigration enforcement legislation Thursday — the result of negotiations with the Florida Legislature — to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order asking states to help round up and detain undocumented immigrants.

The Republican-led legislature and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis agreed on a final product after a rare intra-party political battle brought out death threats.

The governor called the measures the “strongest legislation to combat illegal immigration of any state in the entire country.”
