It was our last day on Oahu and a big storm system was coming in. We decided we would drive west in search of some sun. We stopped for a bit at Electric beach, which was nice, but we decided to go fu…Full review by Christine P

Located at the west side of Oahu, dry and hot. Enjoy the beach with less people. Bus “C”express is faster than bus#40 because less stops.Full review by FourRunner2007

Stopped here after doing a hike in the area. Lots of beaches along this stretch of the highway, but this one was large and not very busy - just a handful of people/groups spread out down the long san…Full review by ljtwpg
There are jelly fish at different times of the moon cycle. The “fancy “ resort beaches post signs. This is only for a few days. I hope you can go back and enjoy the ocean without being stung.
As a resident (granted Kama Aina status by businesses, but recognizing I am not truly of the land here) ... we Haole have been warned to never go to certain places. Waianae being one. Is it as unfriendly as I've been warned? Or could I go there with kokua and aloha, and expect the same in return????

We were not mistreated or bothered while we were there, and we kept to ourselves at the far end of the beach, where it was not very crowded. I don't tend to think about or notice "colors or races" of people, but looking back I realize we were the only "white" people there, it was only disheartening to find a note on our car when we left saying "Locals Only", but we were not "damaged" in anyway by this note other than in spirit ... no aloha spirit there.
I am looking to have a family reunion the last Saturday in May 2015. I am interested in renting an area with a pavilion to accommodate setting up food stuff. I need an area that will accommodate probably 50-60 people. Is this possible and what do I need to do to reserve this are now? Mahalo for your assistance. Loo forward to hearing from you. Kim Wallace

Hi Kim - makaha beach is a fabulous beach but does not have great facilities. It is basically just a long sandy beach. In my mind it is one of the best beaches on oahu - however the toilets there were disgusting and would not be appropriate for a reunion. I can't think of any of that beaches that have a pavilion off hand but I did see locals who brought their own sun shades and had bbqs on other beaches further south from makaha but still in the west side of oahu. hope this helps.
